South Carolina Lawmakers Propose New Gun Control

Anti-gun lawmakers are proposing several new gun control measures.

Local news reports:

COLUMBIA, SC (WACH) - South Carolina lawmakers proposed new gun legislation in the senate Wednesday. Two lowcounty senators say the Charleston church shootings have them trying to push the issue to the head of the line.

"South Carolina has a very very dangerous, escalating rate of gun violence. In 2013, we were ranked as the sixth deadliest state in the nation for gun violence. That's unacceptable," said Democratic Senator Marlon Kimpson.

After nine people were murdered in the Mother Emmanuel church last summer, including his colleague Senator Clementa Pinckney, Senator Kimpson promised he would file legislation to put stricter gun laws in South Carolina. He presented those on the senate floor Wednesday.
